Before you can use Lazyspond, your Instagram account must meet specific requirements set by Meta's Official API. This guide walks you through each requirement step-by-step.

Why These Requirements Exist

Lazyspond uses Meta's Official Instagram Messenger API — the same API used by ManyChat, Shopify, and other major platforms. This is the legitimate, approved way to automate Instagram DMs. Meta enforces these requirements to prevent spam and ensure account security.

Instagram Direct Messaging is technically routed through Facebook's Messenger infrastructure. This is a global requirement for all apps built on the Official Instagram API.

The 3 Required Setup Steps

You must complete all 3 steps in your Instagram app before connecting to Lazyspond. If you skip any step, you'll see empty account lists or connection errors.

Step 1: Switch to a Professional Account

Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account (not a personal account).

How to switch:

1. Open the Instagram app on your phone
2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
3. Tap Account type and tools
4. Select Switch to Professional Account
5. Choose either Business or Creator (both work equally well)
6. Follow the prompts to complete the switch

Switching is completely free and reversible. You can switch back to a personal account anytime from the same menu.

Step 2: Link a Facebook Business Page

Your Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Business Page. This page acts as an invisible routing bridge for the API — you don't need to post on it or use it for anything else.

How to create or connect a Facebook Page:

1. Open the Instagram app

2. Go to Settings (gear icon)

3. Tap Edit Profile

4. Scroll down and tap Page

5. Choose one of these options:

   • Create a New Page: If you don't have a Facebook Page yet
   • Connect an Existing Page: If you already have one

6. Follow the prompts to complete the connection

This is the most commonly missed step. If you're seeing empty account lists or connection errors in Lazyspond, this is likely the culprit. Double-check that a Facebook Page is connected in your Instagram settings.

Step 3: Allow Message Access

You must explicitly grant Lazyspond permission to access your messages.

How to enable message access:

1. Open the Instagram app
2. Go to Settings (gear icon)
3. Tap Messages and story replies
4. Tap Message controls
5. Under Connected Tools, toggle ON "Allow access to messages"
6. Confirm the permission

Once all 3 steps are complete, the "Connect with Facebook" button in Lazyspond will work instantly.

Verifying Your Setup

After completing all 3 steps, verify your setup:

1. Go back to your Lazyspond dashboard
2. Click "Connect with Facebook"
3. You should see your Instagram account in the list
4. Select it and authorize Lazyspond
5. Your account is now connected!

If you still see errors:

• Empty account list: Go back to Step 2 and ensure a Facebook Page is connected
• Permission denied: Go back to Step 3 and toggle message access ON

Both account types work equally well with Lazyspond. Choose based on your needs.

What About Personal Accounts?

Instagram's Official API currently does not support personal accounts. This is a Meta limitation, not a Lazyspond limitation. All apps using the Official API (ManyChat, Shopify, etc.) have the same requirement.

If you need to use a personal account, you'll need to switch to a Professional or Creator account first.

Troubleshooting Setup Issues

"I don't see my account in the list"

• Verify you completed Step 2 (Facebook Page connection)
• Try logging out and back into Lazyspond
• Clear your browser cache and try again

"Connection failed" error

• Ensure you toggled message access ON in Step 3
• Check that your Facebook Page is still connected in Step 2
• Try connecting again from a different browser

"Empty automations list after connecting"

• Wait 5-10 minutes for Meta to sync your account
• Refresh your dashboard
